Gain Essential Ecoliteracy in just 7 weeks:

through the popular, self-paced, fully guided HAUMEA ECOLITERACY ONLINE course.

Cathy Fitzgerald and Nikos Patedakis - cohosts of the Haumea podcast on ecoliteracy and culture

Led by ecological (ecosocial) artist Dr. Cathy Fitzgerald (Ireland) along with ecophilosopher Dr. Nikos Patedakis (California), you will learn why ecoliteracy and ecophilosophy can assist arts practitioners and professionals in developing impactful: creative practices, exhibitions, events, community art programs, art courses, or help you develop insightful cultural leadership for these urgent times.

Each week participants will have access to video lessons for engaged self-paced learning. There will be weekly group meetings via Zoom for valuable peer learning and networking with other creative workers across the world.

The state of the planet is a challenging and confronting area where I can often feel overwhelmed. With the Haumea Ecoversity Ecoliteracy course, Cathy and Nikos provided a balance of information, care and inspiration to those who are finding ways to move their work into this area. The breadth of the course was truly stimulating; science, philosophy, art and spirituality all played a part in the multidimensional approach. This made it much easier to find places where I can use my skills.
There is a lot to absorb and I will be following up with generous suggestions for reading, films and sites to explore. I know this is going to have a long-lasting effect on my practice in the future.

Mary Webster, educator and maker, compassion curricula, Netherlands 5 Dec 2022.

WHY ARE ECOLOGICAL INSIGHTS CHALLENGING FOR THE CREATIVE SECTOR?

Ecoliteracy is a big topic! It encompasses ecologically expansive understanding and integrated environmental and social values, not currently prioritised in the creative sector, but which are needed to help modern society shift toward sustainable and equitable living. Informed creativity has immense social power to inspire others to embrace a more beautiful, just and sustainable culture.

Position your work at the forefront of this crucial, urgent cultural shift.

The benefits of joining the Haumea Essential Ecoliteracy course:

  • will help you become fluent with the ecological mind-shift, language, concepts, frameworks and practices–vital to communicate and advancing a life-sustaining culture. Ecofluency is increasingly important if you or your cultural institution wish to secure funding for creative aesthetic and community engagement opportunities.
  • will help you understand clearly how the dominant culture has historically misperceived our place on Earth and contributed to this unprecedented cultural crisis–and correspondingly, we learn why informed ecocultural activity is crucial for global sustainable cultural renewal.
  • you will know why modern society’s future lies in an expansive, inclusive planetary worldview, where all understand Earth’s inhabitants flourishing is ultimately connected with healthy environments and intergenerational social justice
  • you will more skillfully collaborate and co-create with others not in the art world (scientists, environmental experts, teachers and local knowledge holders) in the shift to collective transformative learning, and most importantly, you
  • know how Earth-aligned creative activity can help us live well with the wider community of life.
  • join a supportive community of creatives and other cultural workers engaging in this new area

Hello! Kia Ora! Dia daoibh!

I’m Cathy Fitzgerald, an ecological artist, educator, and founder of Haumea Ecoversity. Originally from Aotearoa New Zealand, I’ve lived in rural Ireland, the home of my ancestors, for over 30 years. Together with my philosopher colleague Dr Nikos Patedakis (USA), we’ve guided over 400 creative professionals worldwide in transformative ecoliteracy training since 2019.

Haumea Ecoversity Community Membership is the next chapter of this work—a vibrant space for lifelong learning, collective wisdom, and creative transformation for a more beautiful, just, and life-sustaining world.

Dr Cathy Fitzgerald

“In these times of great challenge, I’m passionate about bringing ecoliteracy—including new ecological thinking, values, language, and head-heart-body practices—to creative, sustainability and cultural sectors. These areas have a crucial leadership role: they can inspire communities to embrace new values and actions for living well on Earth, together with all life.”
